Overview
In order to start building, you need to request access to our Publish API. Note - The Share Plugin is an open offering, and application for access is not required.
The Publish API allows developers to share their platform content into Nextdoor.
We have two offering types partners can use to access and display Nextdoor content: Publish API and Share Plugin. Please note that you will be required to request access for Publish API but Share Plugin is an open offering.
Publish API
The Publish API allows developers to authenticate, link their accounts to Nextdoor and then post content natively to Nextdoor. Users on the partner platform must register or log in in order to post. The posting must come from a Nextdoor user (either a neighbor or a public agency or a business), not from the partner platform directly (ex: John Smith on GoFundMe is sharing his campaign, vs GoFundMe sharing campaigns directly).
Use Cases
- For websites and platforms that have content where a perpetual connection makes sense. For example, if you are a local news publisher that wants to push headlines to Nextdoor for every article, this API would be a great fit.
- Blogs or websites that want to get more viewership with every post by having website owners link their personal Nextdoor account with the website, which enables auto-sharing
- Social Media Management platforms whose customers (individuals or agencies) want to tap into their local areas by linking accounts with Nextdoor and then auto-pushing content to Nextdoor.
- Events platforms where event creators can link their account to their personal Nextdoor account and enable auto-pushing of events to get more viewership.
- Marketplaces where individuals can link their account to their inventory and auto-push each new listing into Nextdoor, in both the feed and the For Sale and Free marketplace
- Public Agencies that want to more easily share content to Nextdoor by connecting their platforms with their Nextdoor agency account.
Share Plugin
The Share Plugin allows developers to easily share content into Nextdoor. Users on the partner platform must register or log in in order to post. The posting must come from a Nextdoor user. All user types - neighbor, business or public agency - may use this feature. Share Plugin works best for websites and apps where content is more often shared once or on an ad hoc basis, but by multiple parties
Use Cases
- Publishers or websites that want the option to get more viewership with posts by having website owners login to their personal Nextdoor account with the website, which enables auto-sharing
- Events platforms where event creators can log into their account to their personal Nextdoor account and then offer administrators, as well as readers, to share content to Nextdoor.
- Marketplaces where individuals can log into their account to their inventory and either share new listings into Nextdoor, or offer satisfied customers to share their purchase with friends.
- Public Agencies that want to more easily share content to Nextdoor by logging into their platforms with their Nextdoor agency account. The ShareKit would enable sharing by either the agency itself or by readers of the content.
